Child among seven killed in N2 head-on collision – Tugela

The accident resulted in the closure of the N2 between Zinkwazi and Mandeni.

Bodies were left scattered across the N2 this afternoon after a horrific head-on collision involving a Toyota Etios and Hilux bakkie.

Seven people in the Etios – four males and three females, one of which was believed to be a child aged five – lost their lives in the accident just before the Tugela bridge.

“The driver of the Hilux sustained only minor injuries,” said Paul Herbst of IPSS Medical Rescue.

“The Etios was travelling towards Empangeni and the Hilux was driving towards Ballito.

“The severity and degree of impact resulted in traumatic, lethal injuries.”

The N2 between Zinkwazi and Mandeni was closed and traffic was diverted at the two off-ramps.

The cause of the accident is being investigated by the police.
