Car drives off Maidstone bridge, five injured

The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

Five people, including two children, were injured when their car that was travelling towards Tongaat, went off the Maidstone bridge on the R102 yesterday.

According to Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue, it is believed that the driver lost control and hit a man who was walking on the side of the road before her car went off the bridge.

“The boy is about 14 years old and the girl is about seven years old. The pedestrian was also found in the river,” said Herbst.

They were all taken to hospital.

One person was seriously injured and the other four escaped with moderate injuries.
