Salt Rock Licensing office up and running
Many have had no choice but to drive out to Stanger to renew their motor vehicle licences.

Residents will be happy to know that the Salt Rock Licensing office is back up and running after being closed for over a week – something that is fast becoming the norm.
The closed office meant that many were forced to drive out to Stanger to renew their motor vehicle licences.
According to PR Councillor Privi Makhan, the one and only person qualified to use the system has reportedly been off sick and a relief clerk was appointed for today to assist with customers.
“A senior manager of the department has advised that she will be back at work on Monday,” said Makhan.
However, it is still unknown as to why the office was closed for over a week, as last year KwaDukuza municipality deputy director of community safety, Sthembiso Zungu said that two people had been trained to use the system should one not be able to report for work.
KDM has been approached for comment, but no response has been received.
Saturday dates and times
Those who are only available on Saturdays can visit either Stanger (7am – 1.30pm) or Salt Rock (7am – 1.30pm) on the below mentioned dates.

What you need to take when renewing your motor vehicle licence:
- Your original and a copy of your ID as the branch does not have a copy machine.
- Proof of residential address e.g. utility account. If the utility bill is not in your name, the owner of the bill must make an affidavit declaring that you live at the address and the utility bill must be attached to the affidavit.
- If you stay at an informal settlement, you must bring a letter with an official date stamp from the ward councillor confirming your postal and residential address.
- You must fill in a notification of change of address or particulars of person or organisation (NCP) form.
- Motor vehicle licence renewal notice (MVL2). If you do not have the renewal notice, complete form ALV (Application for Licensing of Motor Vehicle).
- Should you need to renew a motor vehicle license on someone’s behalf, take a letter giving you permission to renew the licence, signed by the driver, as well as a certified copy of your ID as well as the driver’s.
