Pregnant woman among six killed in tragic Umdloti accident
The road was littered with debris from the mangled vehicle.
Emergency services arrived to find absolute carnage on the M27 between Umdloti and Mount Moreland on Monday afternoon following a high impact collision.
Six people, including a pregnant woman, lost their lives when a light delivery vehicle and a tipper truck collided at around 3pm.
According to Netcare 911’s Shawn Herbst, six people were declared dead at the arrival of paramedics, while another six people had critical injuries.
Some occupants were found mangled in the Ford bantam bakkie, while two others were ejected from the vehicle – including the expectant mother.

“The Ethekwini Fire and Rescue Services used the Jaws of Life to free one of the critically injured from the wreckage,” said Herbst.
“Once stabilised all the patients were transported by various ambulance services to hospital for further treatment.”
Details surrounding the cause of the accident are still to be confirmed.
