‘Fluks’ and chips for Ballito UIP team
Ocean Basket celebrated and thanked the UIP team who helped them and the rest of the town clean up the destruction caused by the recent hail storm.
It was fish and chips Friday for the Ballito Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) clean up crew who were spoilt to lunch on the house at Ocean Basket Ballito last week.
The restaurant celebrated and thanked the UIP team who helped them and the rest of the town clean up the destruction caused by the recent hail storm on Easter weekend.
Ocean Basket Ballito owner Jason Powell said after 20 years as a chef and restaurateur, that was one of the toughest moments he has had to face.

“I am so proud of our 45 staff who rose to the challenge and helped me pick up every shard of glass after the storm. It is actually unbelievable that we were up and running by lunchtime the next day.
“They put our customers first, protected children, and kept their cool,” said Powell.
“The other heroes, of course, are the clean-up crew – the dedicated people from the Ballito UIP, who not only picked up the pieces after the storm, but who spend every day keeping our area clean, and ensuring the aesthetics of our beautiful beach front are also up to scratch. We appreciate them, and this lunch is just a small token of our gratitude for their exceptional hard work.”
UIP security manager Dieter Fittkau said they are grateful to Ocean Basket for the kind gesture.
“The UIP team worked hard right through Easter weekend to ensure the beach front is clean and beautiful for the visitors and beach goers to use after the destructive storm,” said Fittkau.
