WATCH: Sal Masekela joins The 2019 Ballito Pro presented by O’Neill
His name was revealed at the stylish media and partner launch of the world's longest continuously running professional surfing event at Fiamma Grill last week.
The 2019 Ballito Pro presented by O’Neill has clinched the one and only Sal Masekela as their ambassador for this year’s event.
His name was revealed at the stylish media and partner launch of the world’s longest continuously running professional surfing event at Fiamma Grill last week.
Son of the famous South African jazz musician Hugh Masekela, Sal is a renowned American sports’ commentator, sportsman and musician who will be coming home to his roots for the Sal Masekela African Surf Adventure driven by SMG Rocks and hosted by Coco de Mer.

In a video message, Sal said he felt honoured to have been chosen as the ambassador of the event and that he could not wait to come down and get involved.
Known for his philanthropist heart, Sal will be taking part in a number of activations and public interactions during his time in KwaDukuza.
Event co-ordinator Collette Bundy said they were delighted to have Sal on board.
“This event is a chance for people to experience an outdoor African adventure that surpasses surfing and entertainment. The dedication to environmental sustainability and immersion of the sport into rural communities is proving to be a catalyst for nation building – both for South African people and this beautiful country,” said Bundy.

O’Neill South Africa brand director Paul Canning said they were proud to be the presenting sponsor for The Ballito Pro.
“The event has such an amazing history in South African surfing and has been an instrumental platform in getting our local professional surfers onto the world surfing stage for over five decades.
“I remember watching my first ever surfing event which was when it was still the Gunston 500.
“I crawled through the crowded pier to get to the railing and Pierre Tostee was in the final. I went on to compete later and it was always an event I could count on to get enough points to get onto the championship tour,” said Canning.
“We look forward to building a long relationship with the KwaDukuza municipality and presenting another world class surfing festival.”
