R33 000 act of kindness by Shakaskraal Good Samaritan
Achidanandan Reddy said his conscience would not allow him to use the money, knowing that it did not belong to him.
The anxiety after accidentally depositing R33 000 into a stranger’s account, nearly killed Palm Lakes resident, Dorina Bowes.
Luckily for her, the money was in the hands of a good man, Achidanandan Reddy from Shakaskraal, who transferred the money back to Bowes’ account last weekend.
“I was making a payment to the South African Breweries on June 12 and I was shocked to get a message on June 19 from the company saying my stock would not be delivered because I had not paid them. I almost lost my mind,” said Bowes, who owns a restaurant in Hillcrest.
This is when it dawned on Bowes that she had paid the money into the wrong account.

Her terror grew when she heard from the bank that they could not simply reverse the payment.
“They said they could not take the money from his account without any proof that an error had been made.”
But with the help of her bank, she was put in touch with Reddy who asked to meet her at the Ballito Lifestyle Centre last weekend.
“He then transferred all my money back to my account. I just want the North Cost community to know that Reddy is a good man.
“I mean, we had never met before but he manged to keep the money for weeks and transferred it back to me, all of it. I am so happy that in this day and age, we still have people like him,” said Bowes.
Reddy said his conscience would not allow him to use the money, knowing that it did not belong to him.
“I would not like someone to use my money, knowing that it does not belong to him or her.
“If I was in her situation, I would have been hoping to get it back. So I gave it back and I feel great knowing I made someone happy,” said Reddy.
