All hands on deck at Umhali police station
Dolphin Coast residents rolled up their sleeves to give the police station a face-lift.
Members of the Umhlali police station along with various stakeholders decided to take a fresh approach to celebrating Mandela Day this past Thursday.
The Umhlali SAPS Trauma Centre, together with the Dolphin Coast Residents and Ratepayers Association (DOCRRA), Ballito Helping Hands, local schools, private businesses in the area, community members and members of the police came together early on July 18 to freshen up and revamp the local police station and its surrounding areas.
“The intent was to show Umhlali police station that Dolphin Coast residents appreciate their efforts and to help strengthen the morale of the police station,” said DOCRRA’s executive officer Stephanie Walker.

Teams worked together in 67-minute time slots to paint and help with the garden area.
Staff from PSG Wealth and Insure in Ballito put together trauma comfort packs which were donated to the Umhlali Trauma Unit based at the police station. The unit deals with domestic violence, child abuse and sexual crimes.

An area next to the police building was also levelled and graded to make room for additional parking spaces.
“It is wonderful when the community takes hands to help each other move forward,” said Captain Vinny Pillay.
