Nation Builders: One life at a time
Nation Builders equipped the 70 women present at their Women's Day seminar, with practical steps on how to break free from abusive relationships.
Gender struggle featured strongly at last Saturday’s Nation Builders workshop hosted at Umhlali Country Club.
Nation Builders, a non-profit organisation founded in 2015, focuses on the development and upliftment of women, youth and children.
The afternoon workshop brought into focus the pandemic that affects thousands of woman in the country.
“Abuse of women has drastically escalated over the last few years so much so that police stations have been inundated with cases of domestic violence against women,” said founder Annet Michelle Sewraj.
With this in mind Nation Builders equipped the 70 women present at their Women’s Day seminar, with practical steps on how to break free from abusive relationships.
Keynote speaker at the event, Annet Michelle Sewraj encouraged women to break the cycles of abuse and to use their skills, talents and abilities to re-invent themselves and improve their lives.
She emphasized that true freedom from abuse begins with a change of mindset. Her message was one of hope for a better future for every woman who is willing to rise up and take charge of their lives.
The day was highlighted by celebrating the opportunities women have and the support that is available to assist women to equip and empower themselves.
Captain Vinny Pillay of Umhlali SAPS thanked Nation Builders for the work they are doing to impact and empower abused woman. He added that the free counselling available at the trauma unit at Umhlali SAPS needed organisations like Nation Builders to come alongside and assist in empowering woman.
Captain Pillay said he looked forward to partnering with and working with the NGO in future community projects.
Nation Builders has various skills development training programmes, workshops and seminars aimed specifically at empowering and impacting women, youth and children. Their main goal is to impact one life at a time in an effort to build stronger communities. For more information contact Leann Peters at 083 743 4812.
