Green fingers and muddy boots at The Umhlali and District Garden and Flower Club

The Club meets on the first Wednesday of every month.

A passionate crowd of local garden enthusiasts meet monthly to swap ideas and be inspired at The Umhlali and District Garden and Flower Club.

At the Club’s meeting last Wednesday owner of Muddy Boots Nursery, Calvin Fourie, shared his knowledge on rare plants and succulents to a captivated audience, with the club meeting held at the nursery in Salt Rock.

“We enjoyed a constructive and amusing talk by someone who is passionate about plants,” said president of the Club, Anne Isabelle.

Tea was served and the Club held a raffle. They made a donation to the Dolphin Coast Conservancy which was accepted by Di Jones.

The Club meets on the first Wednesday of every month. They have over 100 members and continue to grow.

“We either have gardening related talks, visit gardens, or we’ll have floral demonstrations,” said Isabelle.

“We also participate in The Witness show with an exhibit.”

She added that the secretary of the Club, Pete McClean, was the backbone of the organisation.

“She has been involved for many years, and she’s invaluable,” she said.

The Club encourages new members to join, and visitors are always welcome too.
