Double shot at gold for local Qwabe twins in Idols top 7
Their father, pastor Laurence "MK" Qwabe said he does not know how to describe how proud he is and thanked everyone who had been supporting his daughters.
The Qwabe twins, Virginia and Viggy Qwabe, are taking Idols SA by storm, reaching the top seven on Sunday night.
The 21-year-olds from the tiny hamlet of Doringkop, near Stanger, have been the talk of the town since they entered the competition at the beginning of this year, with many supporters sporting T-shirts and car stickers to encourage people to vote for the girls.
Their father, pastor Laurence “MK” Qwabe said he does not know how to describe how proud he is and thanked everyone who had been supporting his daughters.

“You won’t believe the celebrations in our area, whenever the girls get into the next level. Cars were hooting and ululation was coming from our neighbours and social media was buzzing. I am really happy and every time I think about this, I feel like crying because I am too happy,” said Qwabe.
He said the girls started singing at a very young age and music means everything to them. He said if you want to upset them, deny them a chance to sing.

“Around 2010, they started composing songs for our church choir and we were very shocked by their talent and passion for music. After composing the songs, they would teach the choir how to sing these songs, and the joy and excitement they brought to that choir still amazes me.”
He said he does not want to think about the day when one of the girls will have to go home and leave her sister behind.

“I don’t know how that will happen because those two always want to be together. However, I know that there can only be one winner. I am very grateful for the support we get from the South African citizens and especially people from KwaDukuza and KZN. I thank you all and God bless you.”
