KwaDukuza motor licencing offices to reopen partially next week

The centre has been closed since early June, when reopening was delayed owing to a staff member testing positive for Covid-19.

KwaDukuza’s motor licencing offices will open partially on Monday, July 6.

The municipality could not confirm whether the Salt Rock office would also be opening.

Both centres have been closed since early June, when reopening was delayed owing to a staff member testing positive for Covid-19.

The reopening of the KwaDukuza site has since been approved by the KZN Transport department following the decontamination of the offices.

All staff have undergone self-isolation and have since tested negative.

“We are now ready to receive members of the public under strict conditions,” said municipal spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize.

“As we open, we want to remind our residents and stakeholders that we are still within the 90 day grace period which started on June 1 and is set to end on August 31.”

Phase one will see the municipality only deal with (from Monday July 6 until further notice):

– Rescheduling backlogs of learners and driving license tests that were scheduled to take place since the start of the lockdown.

– Renewal of ‘credit card type’ driving licenses.

– Renewal of professional driving licenses.

– Collection of new driving license cards.

– Catering to the needs of essential workers requiring to renew their driving/professional driving license cards. However, they will be required to produce their essential services permits or be in their full uniform for identification purposes on arrival.

– Renewal of motor vehicle licenses (License Discs).

– Dealers of motor vehicles for registrations.

– Registration of motor vehicles.

These services will not be available under phase one:

– New applications for:

– Learner’s license tests.

– Driving license tests, and

– Duplicate learner’s license.

– Conversion of foreign driving licenses.

Take note of these important requirements:

– For health and safety as well as Covid-19 safety reasons, all applicants will have to produce an optometrists certificate in order to do any application for a driving license, that is (application of Learners, Driver Tests Card Renewals or Professional Driving Permits). No eye testing will be done on-site.

– All applicants to produce their own proof of residence documents (own statement of account or similar document bearing the residential address (not PO Box), a letter from the councillor where they reside or statement of lease/rent contract. Minor applicants will be expected to produce the above document with a Saps affidavit made by the guardian/parent.

– Applicants to have their own stationery, i.e. pens to complete forms themselves.

– Applicants to produce a copy of their identity documents for each application with the original documents. No copies will be made at the testing centre.

– Wearing of face masks is compulsory.
