Four people killed at Zinkwazi as dagga smugglers’ vehicle collides with bakkie

The Audi A4 that burst into flames after a fatal accident on the N2 near Zinkwazi on Monday morning spewed smoke of a different sort.

Four people died in the head-on collision south of the Tugela River bridge on Monday morning.

Two occupants in the Audi, apparently drug smugglers, and two people in a Toyota Hilux travelling towards Empangeni, were killed instantly.

Newark police spokesperson Mlungisi Ngubane said the two occupants of the Audi, which was almost overflowing with dagga, were taking the drug from Swaziland to Durban.

“They were burnt beyond recognition,” said Ngubane.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by Newark Saps.
