Rolling blackouts continue as Eskom struggles to maintain power grid

Loadshedding is expected to continue for the rest of the week.

Breakdowns continue to plague South Africa’s constrained power system, prolonging loadshedding from 9am until 11pm tonight.

Unplanned breakdowns stand at 12 100MW of capacity, adding to the 4 350MW currently out on planned maintenance.

Any further deterioration in the generation performance may therefore necessitate the escalation of loadshedding at short notice, said Eskom.

Loadshedding was expected to continue for the rest of the week, particularly as the cold front hits.

“We urge the people of South Africa to help reduce electricity usage.”

Loadshedding times

  • KwaDukuza southern network (Zinkwazi to Ballito & Zimbali): 12pm – 2.30pm
  • KwaDukuza northern network (Tinley Manor to Zinkwazi): No loadshedding
  • Tongaat CBD: 9am – 10am
  • Tongaat Beach: 8pm – 10pm
  • Mandeni (16): 2pm – 4.30pm
