Breakdowns affect power grid, loadshedding stage 2 to resume

Citing a severely constrained power system as a result of multiple breakdowns, Eskom said it was necessary to continue loadshedding until 10pm.

Eskom will begin loadshedding the national grid from 12 noon today, and will likely continue to do so for the rest of the week.

Citing a severely constrained power system as a result of multiple breakdowns, Eskom said it was necessary to continue loadshedding until 10pm.

Ten generation units at seven power stations suffered breakdowns in the last 48 hours.

A generator each broke down at the Arnot, Medupi, Lethabo, Matla power stations, while two units each at Majuba, Camden and Tutuka power stations also broke down.

Breakdowns stand at 11 665MW of capacity, adding to the 4 558MW currently out on planned maintenance.

“Any further deterioration in the generation performance may necessitate the escalation of loadshedding at short notice,” said the Eskom media desk.

“We urge the people of South Africa to help reduce electricity usage in order to assist Eskom to reduce the instance of loadshedding.”

This is how you will be affected today:

Tongaat CBD: 2pm – 4pm

Tongaat Beach: No loadshedding

Mandini (16): No loadshedding

Mandini A: No loadshedding

Mandini B: 12pm to 12.30pm

Belvedere: 2pm – 4pm

Stanger southern grid: 8pm – 10pm

Stanger northern grid: 12pm – 2.30pm and again from 8pm – 10pm
