WATCH: Ballito Move One Million takes a united stance against corruption

Ballito representative for the movement, Cal Snow said Saturday's event marked the start of a mass scale active citizenry campaign that would continue over the next 45 months until general elections in 2024.

About a hundred Dolphin Coast residents formed a human chain along Ballito Drive while a kilometre long motorcade followed in a slow drive to support the countrywide call to action by the grassroots movement “Move One Million” on Saturday morning.

The campaign aimed to get one million people to take hands in peaceful demonstrations across the country and abroad to take a stand against corruption, poor governance, farm murders and gender-based violence.

Ballito representative for the movement, Cal Snow said Saturday’s event marked the start of a mass scale active citizenry campaign that would continue over the next 45 months until general elections in 2024.

“What began as a reasonable approach to keeping South Africa safe under lockdown has turned into a looting frenzy, in which billions of rands have gone missing,” said Move One Million founder Jarette Petzer who also founded South Africa’s #ImStaying movement.

The human chain extends along Ballito Drive in support of the Move One Million campaign.

Petzer was inspired to create the group to encourage fellow South Africans to rise up against corruption.

“Enough is enough! We reject the escalating violent crimes and gender-based violence. We reject the racial baiting and divisive narratives. We reject ongoing poverty, finger pointing, and the lack of accountability.

“The people have, for too long, obeyed a government that divides us, instead of unites us.

“The organisation has demanded that legal action be taken against senior government officials involved in corrupt activities and total transparency in the revision of the direct electoral process,” said Petzer.

A motorcade joined those on the pavement in support of the campaign.

Since its launch in mid-July the Facebook group has gathered almost 500 000 supporters from as far afield as Canada, Cyprus, New York and London.

“Our movement belongs to all of us. We welcome citizens from all races, orientations, religious backgrounds and all walks of life,” said Snow.
