Eskom will not suspend loadshedding tomorrow, and will instead continue until 5am on Saturday.

The power utility will return to Stage 1 loadshedding from 5am on Wednesday and will continue until 5am on Saturday, citing a severely constrained generation system.

Since Monday Eskom have successfully returned 4 generation units at Kusile, Grootvlei, Kriel and Matla, as well as the Cahora Bassa line from Mozambique.

However, this is not enough to suspend loadshedding because of lost generation capacity at Medupi, Arnot and Komati power stations.

Additionally the return to service of 4 other units has been delayed.

Eskom has 5 850MW on planned maintenance, while another 13 443MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns and delays.

Eskom said they would continue to do maintenance during this period, and as such the system would continue to be constrained, with the possibility of loadshedding remaining elevated.
