Nation Builders SA honours 6 North Coast women

A number of prominent women on the North Coast were honoured by Nation Builders SA last week in celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8.

The 6 women who were selected come from a wide-ranging field of expertise ensuring that recognition was distributed equally among the deserving recipients.

The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund founder, Rose Stephenson, was one of those recognised for her work in social development during lockdown and throughout The Orphan Fund’s 17 years of operation.

“I am honoured and humbled to receive this token of appreciation for many years of seeking to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable children in the community,” she said.

Jenny van Buren (Principal of Ashton College), Jenny Meer (General Manager of Victoria Hospital), Margaret Hirsch (Executive Director of Hirsch’s), Dolly Govender (Mayor of KwaDukuza Municipality) and Nonhlanhla Mkhwanazi (Fire Chief of KwaDukuza Municipality) were the other recipients.

They were recognised for their work in the fields of education, health, business, politics and safety and security respectively.

Nation Builders SA is a North Coast-based organisation which aims to uplift and support women and children through community initiatives and training programmes in literacy, healthcare, child abuse signs and how to combat and recover from gender based violence.
