Peaceful by-election promised following death of Lindelani councillor
The 4 803 registered voters will be able to cast their votes over 2 days, April 20 and 21, via a contactless system, with all Independent Electoral Commission staff and volunteers in full protective equipment.
The 7 candidates competing for the Lindelani seat in KwaDukuza council have pledged that next week’s election day will be peaceful.
At the 2014 election, ANC volunteer Winnie ‘Nu’ Mhlongo was shot and killed outside a voting station and again, during the 2019 elections, violence resulted in injuries.
Next week’s by-election in Ward 5 follows the death of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) councillor, Jabulani Sibiya.
The seat is being contested by all major parties and independents, except the DA.

“We are confident that we will produce an environment conducive to a free and fair election,” said IEC representative, Paul Daniel.
