BMW unveils first electric M-series, 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds

Consider yourself warned, this editorial is going to seem like we are selling you a fully-electric BMW, the first in its class, and maybe we are.

The Bavarian Engine Works company (BMW) recently unveiled the first fully-electric M-series, but only the i4 M50 model will be on offer in South Africa from its planned early 2022 launch.

Zero to 100km/h in as little as 3.9 seconds is accomplished with 2 powerful BMW M eDrive engines, one on each axle, which combined churn out 400kW and 795Nm.

The i4 M50 has a claimed driving range of 510km and can be recharged from 10% battery to drive a total of 140km within 10 minutes.

At home, you have the convenience of using your BMW Wallbox.

With up to 11 kW, it brings the battery of the BMW i4 back to 100% charge in just 8.5 hours.

The BMW Flexible Fast Charger for home use, the charging cable (Mode 3) for public charging, and the BMW Charging Card for access to the public charging network are included with purchase.

Inside the fully-electric i4 M50 one can expect to find it standardly fitted with acoustic glazing, pre-heating and pre-conditioning, sport seats and a sports steering wheel – all while adorned with Vernasca leather and the manufacturer’s individual leather trim variants.

The future is electric is a clear message with this model, featuring the brand’s curved display along with an upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

The curved display lurks two digital screens, one a 12.3-inch information display and the other, a 14.9-inch control display.

An automatic climate control system comes fitted as standard, using nanofibre technology to purify air within the car – this is also controlled via the touchscreen display.
