Multi talented Zamani model and poet wants to see local poets uplifted

A 22-year-old poet and model from Zamani Township in Darnall, Precious Shezi, is passionate about the uplifting local poets.
She started a movement called ‘Durban meets KwaDukuza’ and formed the performing group Ubizo (‘the stage is calling my name’), where she is a director and scriptwriter.
“I started the Durban meets KwaDukuza movement after realising that most of us young poets and artists decide to move out of KwaDukuza in search of greener pastures.
But what if we are able to stay in KwaDukuza and get the big artists and poets to come to the townships to give us advice.
They can help us improve. It would be wonderful to get an opportunity to perform for them or to share a stage.
In that way our self-esteem and understanding of the industry will be improved.”
Apart from being a poet, Shezi is a 2019/20 Miss BVM (Buka Visual Media) Heritage and currently in the top 10 finalists for Miss Dream Chaser KZN.
Shezi strongly believes that talent should be backed with education, so she returned to school as she was not impressed with her final matric marks.
“I completed my matric in 2017 but due to fewer points, I tried upgrading but that did not work. So I had to humble myself and return to high school in 2020, doing grade 10.”
She has volunteered at her school to help other pupils with mathematics, literacy and life sciences.
