Kwazulu-Natal has entered the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, KZN premier Sihle Zikalala said on Sunday.

He said KZN had recorded more than 3 000 new cases for 3 consecutive days. In iLembe District there are 1991 confirmed Coronavirus cases as of Monday.

Since the beginning of the pandemic the district has recorded 26 518 cases, 644 deaths and 23 883 recoveries.

KwaZulu-Natal ranks third highest countrywide with the total number of cases since the pandemic first began having reached 430 789 cases, with the average number of cases recorded in the past 7 days accumulating to 2 604 cases per day.

The health department has warned that the number of daily hospital isolations have also increased steadily in both the public and private sectors, including intensive care unit patients who require ventilation.
