R10 000 raised for Orphan Fund in potjie cook-off
As luck would have it, lamb shank was what won the competition with team 'Englishman, Scotsman and Dutchman' taking first place with their orange marmalade lamb shank potjie.
Just over R10 000 was raised for The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund at the Swan and Seasnake Potjie Competition last weekend.
Hosted at Matt Coningham’s Salt Rock home, 12 teams competed for first place in the charity cook-off.
Delicious and intoxicating aromas filled the home as potjie masters prepared their pots for the judges, with recipes ranging from ocean fresh to the age-old classics like lamb shank.
As luck would have it, lamb shank was what won the competition with team ‘Englishman, Scotsman and Dutchman’ taking first place with their orange marmalade lamb shank potjie.
The trio team, made up of Alex Holmes, Stuart Millar and Iain Pearson walked away with prizes which included a specially imported potjie pot trophy from London.
The trophy has been used in potjie competitions overseas under the same name (Swan and Seasnake) since 2009.
Orphan Fund coordinator, Mpume Vilakazi extended special thanks to host, Matt Coningham and cooks for making the fundraiser event possible.
