Eskom moves to Stage 4 loadshedding at midday

Further breakdowns have forced Eskom to implement stage 4 loadshedding, which will start today at midday.

Loadshedding will continue until Friday at 5am, under stage 4 before being downgraded to stage 2.

Once stage 2 takes effect, this will continue until 5am on Saturday.

“Over the past 24 hours a unit each at Medupi, Kusile and Matla power stations tripped while a unit each at Lethabo and Arnot power stations were forced to shut down,” Eskom said.

Extensive use of emergency reserves has started, further hampering recovery of generation reserves.

Meanwhile, Koeberg unit 1 is expected to return to service today.

Total breakdown and planned maintenance now exceed 20 000MW.

Here are your loadshedding times:

Ballito southern grid: 

• Wednesday: 4pm to 6.30pm
• Thursday: midnight to 2.30am, 8am to 10.30am, and again from 4pm to 6.30pm.

Stanger northern grid:

• Wednesday: Midday to 2.30pm and again from 8pm to 10.30pm
• Thursday: 4am to 6am, midday to 2.30pm and again from 8pm to 10.30pm
• Friday: 2am to 4.30am

Tongaat:

• Wednesday: 4pm to 6pm and 10pm to midnight
• Thursday: 10am to midday and 10pm to midnight
• Friday: 4am to 6am
