After Dark parties at the Ballito Pro

Alongside a showcase of Africa’s best surfing talent, the entertainment programme at the Ballito Pro pres. by O’Neill will ensure an exciting lead up to the festive season.

Over 11 action-packed days (December 9 – 19), a well-planned programme will take you from early morning yoga sessions in Ballito to evening festivities in Ntshawini.

It is designed for all residents and tourists in KwaDukuza to enjoy, with coronavirus protocols in place to ensure venues keep within crowd limits and relevant precautions are taken.

As part of the decentralised after-surf schedule, 3 distinct venues have been selected as the best places to be when winding down and reminiscing on the day’s competition.

For the duration of the Ballito Pro, the Ballito Village Sundown Festival (Ballito), Yami Rib and Burger (Salt Rock) and Gidela Lounge (Ntshawini) will host the evening’s festivities.

These evenings are for relaxing, catching up with friends, listening to live music and engaging in a spot of retail therapy.

The Ballito Village Sundown Festival will be the epicentre, hosted in a fenced off area by Ballito Surf Co, Ballito Backpackers, Concha and Mozambik.

Open every night of the Pro, 15 stalls will be selling food, clothing and everything in-between. Be sure to also look out for the 6×6 metre screen which will broadcast live action and host a movie night on December 12.

“Instead of music concerts this year, we have partnered with certain businesses to ensure the important platform for local retailers remains,” said event co-ordinator, Collette Bundy.

An exciting addition this year is the partnership with Gidela Lounge in Ntshawini, which will provide an authentic shisanyama and township experience.

Gidela Lounge is the result of an almost 40-year family legacy and you can be sure that both the food and atmosphere will be memorable.

Over the 11 days, Gidela Lounge will host a market, local chefs evenings and battles of the DJs.

“We want to promote township tourism and township economy so all small businesses in KwaDukuza also benefit from holiday tourism,” said KwaDukuza municipality executive director of economic development and planning, Sikhumbuzo Hlongwane.

If you are an early riser rather than a night owl, then perhaps the day schedule of events for the whole family will be better suited.

Needless to say, whether your interests are surfing related or not, the world class event schedule will have something that caters for you.

Put on flip-flops, sunscreen and a mask and you will be set for December at the Ballito Pro.
