Drugs worth more than R1-million seized in Ballito bust

A 43-year-old man was arrested after police seized cocaine, crystal meth and methcathinone on Sunday.

Police seized drugs worth more than R1-million during an operation in Ballito on Sunday, arresting a 43-year-old man suspected of dealing.

Officers from the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit tracked down the suspect after receiving a tip-off.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said police staked out the area for some time before identifying the suspect.

“Members held observation posts in Ballito and monitored the area until the targeted person was identified,” said Magwaza.

Officers then moved in and discovered a large quantity of drugs, allegedly in the suspect’s possession.

The seized drugs included 500g of crystal meth, four kilograms of methcathinone and two kilograms of cocaine powder.

Police also recovered 12 packs of small glass bottles and nine cellphones.

“The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged for dealing in drugs. He will appear at the Umhlali Magistrate’s Court on Monday [today],” said Magwaza.
