IFP mourns loss of KwaDukuza councillor, Dicco Mkhize

The KwaDukuza Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is mourning the loss of recently appointed PR councillor, Dicco Mkhize (42), who passed away on December 5.

An IFP activist since a young age, Mkhize began working as a call centre operator at the iLembe District Municipality after matriculating at Mziwamandla High School in Umlazi, and completing her computer skills training.

But she aspired to achieve more and continued down a political career path by taking on the role of publicity secretary of the IFP Youth Brigade in 1997.

Mkhize went on to become chairperson of the Youth Brigade in KwaDukuza’s Lindelani constituency, participating in youth camps led by the late Zenzele Phakathi.

In 2020 she was co-opted as KwaDukuza secretary for the IFP, and after the passing of another councillor, was elected as PR councillor.

In KwaDukuza’s council she held the position of Chairperson of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).

IFP provincial executive committee chairperson, Thami Ntuli, said she was known as a dedicated and hardworking member of the provincial executive committee across the province.

“We wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family of Ms Mkhize, her close friends and to the IFP at large,” Ntuli said.

According to him, Mkhize played a crucial role during the recent elections to rejuvenate the IFP throughout the iLembe district.

KwaDukuza mayor, Lindi Nhaca, also extended her condolences to the family on behalf of the council.

“It is with great sadness that we heard the devastating news. While we were not afforded the opportunity to know her better, we will remember her as a humble servant of the people, a firm voice of her constituency.”

Mkhize was laid to rest on Saturday.

She is survived by three brothers, a sister, and a son and daughter.
