Water returns to parts of KwaDukuza and Mandeni

A fire at the Sundumbili water treatment plant last weekend caused severe water disruptions.

Repairs to the Sundumbili water treatment plant damaged in a fire last weekend were completed yesterday the iLembe District Municipality reports.

Reservoirs started filling up last night and low-lying areas will be the first to receive water as the system continues to build capacity today.

Taps ran dry in certain part of Mandeni and KwaDukuza following the fire last weekend, which was caused by a transformer which exploded.

Consumers are encouraged to assist by conserving water until the supply has normalised,” said water service operations manager, Xolelwa Mazibuko. It is expected the water system will take a week to fully recover.

The municipality thanked the community and business sector for their patience and understanding during the crisis.
