Rescuers find woman clinging to tree in flooded Nonoti River
A motorist who had also been swept off the bridge, and two people who had attempted to free him, were also rescued.
A female pedestrian and motorist washed away while trying to cross a low-level bridge over the flooding Nonoti River earlier today have, along with 2 people who attempted to rescue the driver, been rescued.
The woman was found clinging to a tree by a K9 Search and Rescue team who brought her to safety.
KwaDukuza police spokesperson, Priya Nunkumar, said she was treated by paramedics on the banks of the river.
According to Dylan Meyrick of IPSS Medical Rescue, the vehicle was partially submerged by the rushing water.
“Two local men swam out to assist the driver, but all 3 became trapped by the rising water,” said Meyrick.
The rescue team managed to reach the men and brought them to safety.
The vehicle was also recovered.
