Passionate teaching sees Mandeni pupils succeed
Mtolo has won countless awards for her dedication, most notably the "Iconic Educator of the Year" at the Global Teachers Awards last year, her second international award, and in March the "Best Educator of the Year" at the Ashbab Global Impact Awards.
Mandeni school teacher Mandisa Mtolo is driven by a passion to see children from rural areas standing tall among the best.
The business studies teacher at Mathubesizwe Secondary School was among the teachers recognised at the regional matric awards held in KwaDukuza on Friday, April 8.
She said her own upbringing posed many challenges in her path to education.
To fund her commercial educator course at the Durban University of Technology, she worked part-time and still performed well in her studies, earning her a bursary which helped propel her even further.
She graduated in 2012 with an unprecedented 5 major subjects instead of the usual 3.
“As someone who grew up in a rural area, I dedicated myself to giving rural children an opportunity to develop themselves and become contributors to the mainstream economy,” said Mtolo.
By mentoring pupils in youth development projects, she received 2 global awards, as well as awards from the Mathubesizwe Secondary School, iLembe District and KZN province.
Other noteworthy awards earned included the Global Education Summit Award (GESA) in the category “Outstanding Teacher of the Year 2021”, the MVLA Trust Global Achievers /Teachers Award Conference 2020, and in 2021 the Global Teacher Hall of Fame Award.
On International Women’s Day last year she was also proclaimed the MVLA International Ideal Woman Achiever Award winner.
