N2 south closed after bakkie and sugarcane truck collide – traffic backed up to Ballito

Motorists are advised to delay any southbound trips while efforts to move the sugarcane truck are made.

With the majority of major arterial roads connecting the North to the South Coast closed, an accident between the Tongaat Toll Gate and Ballito has seen traffic backed up by more than 10km, reaching the Ballito N2 overpass.

The accident involved a sugarcane truck and bakkie earlier this morning on the southbound lane, along the hill shortly before the toll gate.

Debris remains scattered across the N2 which has since been closed to allow for the recovery of the sugarcane truck.

Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst confirmed the closure, adding that both drivers sustained only minor injuries.
