Eskom brings back Stage 2 from 5pm today
The power utility has warned of a high risk of escalating to a higher loadshedding stage.
Stage 2 loadshedding will start at 5pm today and run until 10pm however, Eskom has warned that it may have no choice but to upgrade to a higher stage sooner if things go wrong.
Evening peak supply constraints persist, the state-owned utility provider said, noting that the onset of winter has increased demand particularly during evening and morning peaks.
Should any further breakdowns happen during the day, a higher stage would need to be implemented sooner than the planned start of stage 2 at 5pm today.
“Since yesterday, a unit each at Arnot, Grootvlei and Matla power stations either tripped or were taken offline for repair. At the same time last night, two units were returned to service, one each at Kriel and Grootvlei power stations.”

Ballito southern grid: Not affected
Stanger northern grid: 5-6.30pm.
Darnall, Zinkwazi, Zonoti, Sansouci, Novers Farm and Mandundube: Not affected.
eThekwini remains exempt for the time being.
