Aldinville Primary pupils score new shirts made from recycled bed sheets

Thanks to a joint charity effort, 450 recycled shirts were donated to the school.

The brainchild of the uMhlanga Sands Resort, 450 school shirts made out of recycled bed sheets were donated to a Groutville school.

Pieter le Roux, a new resident in Ballito who became aware of The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund’s work, reached out to coordinator Mpume Vilakazi to find out what he could do to help.

One of the projects he had in mind involved bringing the uMhlanga Sands Resort on board.

“It turned out the hotel was already busy with a project which included the recycling of bed sheets into school shirts and we knew that Aldinville Primary School in Groutville needed school shirts,” Vilakazi said.

Deputy general manager at the resort, Franco Seaman, organised a fun day for the school’s children and handed over the donated shirts.

“The shirts are of excellent quality and even come packaged as if new. Mr Seaman also promised to return at the end of the year to give the children a Christmas party,” said Vilakazi.

Le Roux also got in touch with the Umhlanga Cabanas, which donated R50 000 worth of goods for flood victims. Items included duvets and covers, kettles, toasters, cups, saucers and more.
