Siza Water gives Siyakhula Crèche a facelift in honour of Mandela Day

The existing building was renovated to include a baby changing station, a small kitchenette, a private bathroom area, hand-painted murals and soft, bright coloured foam tiles for the floors.

Siyakhuka Crèche in Shaka’s Head received a much-needed facelift thanks to Siza Water which installed a carport that will be used as a breakaway classroom and revamped the facility’s existing structure.

Siza Water managing director, Shyam Misra, said the Mandela Day upgrade will assist in accommodating different educational needs.

“We always look at legacy projects within our concession area that will improve the quality of education and create a base from which they can strive to improve and add value to society,” said Misra.

The crèche was established by resident Sine Mgoqi in 2017 with a R8 000 loan, but she has since been unable to make necessary upgrades.

She was ecstatic that her crammed crèche has been transformed into a vibrant, colourful and safe place for its 50 pupils aged between six months and five years.

“This is like a dream come true. Thank you for picking us. My kids deserve this more than I do,” said Mgoqi.

She was even more grateful for the new private bathroom which brings dignity to her pupils as they will no longer need to use a bucket in front of their classmates.
