Taxi ploughs into Umvoti toll plaza, injuring 8 [Watch]
Reports from the scene indicate the taxi avoided colliding with two overtaking cars in convoy, causing the accident.
A taxi loaded with passengers crashed into an Umvoti toll plaza booth at around midday, leaving eight people injured.
According to medical personnel currently on scene at the collision, patients are being treated before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care. Injuries range from minor to moderate.
Medi Response spokesperson, Paul Herbst, said: “It is alleged two overtaking cars driving in convoy had forced the taxi to swerve to avoid a collision, resulting in it crashing into the booth.”
According to Herbst, the convoy was transporting a VIP and accompanying armed men could be seen monitoring the scene after the collision.
Southbound traffic is affected.
