Big beach clean-ups from Willard Beach to Salmon Bay in preparation for the festive season

Snow Cogan of the Ballito Beach Collective said they felt there was a need for a large beach clean-up to remove the remaining debris before the busy holiday season.

Ballito beaches received a much needed deep clean last Wednesday morning in preparation for the festive season.

This was thanks to the Ballito Beach Collective, together with KwaDukuza Municipality, the Ballito UIP, Ballito Sweepers and half a dozen local businesses that supplied everything from labour, skips and trucks to chainsaws and a TLB.

Deep cleaning the beach takes teamwork.

Snow Cogan of the Ballito Beach Collective said they felt there was a need for a large beach clean-up to remove the remaining debris before the busy holiday season.

“We recognise that the beachfront is one of Ballito’s biggest assets and it is great to be involved in assisting in maintaining it for everyone’s benefit. We would like to thank all of the businesses involved that generously gave up their valuable time and resources for this initiative, as well as our monthly contributors who we rely on for funding of our ongoing projects,” said Cogan.

He said the Ballito Beach Collective was a non-profit organisation formed two years ago to support keeping the beaches safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Dolphin Coast Waste Management project manager, Tina Chamane, who is in charge of the the Ballito Street Sweepers, said her team was happy to be part of the positive initiative.

“Going forward, whenever there are clean-ups, we will do our best to avail ourselves. We appreciate everyone who gave their time to keep our lovely beaches clean,” she said.
