Search for teen swept out to sea at Blythedale called off

Search and rescue teams have been forced to call off the search for the missing teenager owing to severe weather conditions.

Search and rescue operations earlier this afternoon to find a 19-year-old teenage swimmer who had gone missing at Blythedale beach had to be called off because of severe weather conditions.

It is hoped the search will resume early tomorrow morning.

According to Medi Response KZN spokesperson, Paul Herbst, the young man was swimming at an unprotected beach.

Family members lost sight of him and reported the matter to rescue personnel.

Vessels were launched out to sea and a drone deployed in an attempt to locate him, before the weather intervened and the mission called off.

More as the story develops.
