Unmarked Ballito street humps a road safety hazard
The other issue that became a hot topic was the high number of broken street lights.
Ballito residents expressed disappointment over the poor construction and unmarking of speed humps that were recently erected on the P445 opposite Umhlali Country Club.
Residents at a public meeting held by ward 30 councillor Jack Abrahams at Townsend Park on Monday night, said the unmarked humps were a safety hazard.
Abrahams said vehicles had been driving at high speed, especially during loadshedding and when the traffic lights were not working.
“The hump at Umhlali Country Club needs to be repaired and the others need to be painted. These humps were put up last week. I am expecting this to be done within a day or two,” said Abrahams.
The other issue that became a hot topic was the high number of broken street lights in Ballito.
Abrahams said in his ward there were at least 80 to 90 broken street lights.

Councillor Privi Makhan said KwaDukuza municipality has set aside a budget to fix street lights in all the wards in KwaDukuza, but was waiting for the material to be delivered.
Residents also asked about the proposed sale of a portion of Townsend Park, which was met with an outcry by residents.
The municipality last November re-announced its intent to sell 4 000 square metres of land at the park to the Zululand Islamic Society, which plans to build a mosque at the site.
“Unfortunately, we are still waiting for response from the municipality’s legal team for us to know if the sale is going to continue or not. I do not know when they will respond,” said Abrahams.
