Eswatini opens new air link to King Shaka
Should demand be met, the operators will increase the number of flights from three to seven per week, possibly as early as next month.
Instead of driving almost six hours from Durban to Manzini, you can now hop on a plane and complete the trip in just an hour.
It is hoped that tourism and trade will grow between KwaZulu-Natal and Eswatini with the launch of a new flight service connecting King Shaka and King Mswati III international airports.
The first flight landed at King Shaka last Friday and was welcomed by KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Siboniso Duma.
He said the route would not only enhance tourism but also strengthen trade relations.

“Eswatini is one of the key regional tourism markets and shares strong historical and cultural ties with KwaZulu-Natal. Pre-pandemic tourist arrivals from Eswatini averaged 290 000 people per annum and in 2022 it demonstrated a strong recovery of 89%. This presents an exciting opportunity for Eswatini Air to grow as a partner in accelerating the recovery of tourism between the two destinations,” said Duma.
World Bank data indicates that more than 60% of Eswatini exports come to South Africa, with 80% of Eswatini’s imports coming from South Africa.
Should demand be met, the operators will increase the number of flights from three to seven per week, possibly as early as next month.
Eswatini Air have also successfully launched two other connecting flights, one to Johannesburg and the other to Zimbabwe.
