The official handover of the fracility to the Department of Higher Education's CET section celebrated the centre's remarkable achievements in providing comprehensive training programmes.
Friday marked a momentous occasion as the Chief Albert Luthuli Skills Centre was officially handed over to the Department of Higher Education’s Community Education Training (CET) section.
The ceremony took place at the KwaDukuza-based centre, where founder and chairperson of the Sibaya Community Trust, Vivian Reddy, highlighted the remarkable achievements reached since the centre’s establishment seven years ago.
He said out of the more than 3 000 individuals trained, 2 800 are currently employed or are thriving as independent entrepreneurs.
Reddy expressed his pride in the centre and the positive impact it has had on job creation within the community.
The centre specialises in comprehensive training programmes such as office administration, computer literacy, plumbing, welding, bricklaying and plastering.
Department of Higher Education director-general Nkosinathi Sishi emphasised that the skills centre not only plays a crucial role in helping people secure employment, but also empowers individuals to become self-employed and take charge of their economic futures.
