The Miss Ballito competition returns this year with eight new enthusiastic finalists.
The fundraising pageant in aid of Zimbali Rotary not only looks at outward appearances, but also the commitment of the young women involving themselves in community work.
Vying for the prestigious Miss Ballito title are:
Shaye Caldicott (18, Durban North)
A first-year university student who works in Ballito, Shaye is a passionate dancer hoping to pursue a career in ballet and modern tap dancing.
She hopes to make a meaningful contribution towards uplifting the community by helping as many children as she can through the pageant.
Beth Green (19, Ballito)
Passionate about spreading kindness and making the world around her a better place, Beth wants to set an example for future generations.
Beth believes even the smallest acts of kindness can have a significant impact. “Stepping out of one’s comfort zone can be the most rewarding thing to do and learn from, allowing a person to grow.”
Michelle Nxumalo (20, Melville)
Michelle has a gift for positively influencing people, doing so with the goal of putting a smile on the faces of people whose lives she touches.
She helps feed people in her community working with a non-profit organisation, and as a pageant finalist hopes to help communities by donating clothes, food and sanitary items to the needy.
Kayla Cleminshaw (22, Umdloti)
Working as a draughtswoman at a mechanical engineering firm, Kayla is passionate about art and the environment.
Apart from prioritising community work, she cares deeply about spreading a message of protecting the environment.
“The pageant provides an opportunity to make a difference, whether it is big or small,” she said.
Kayla will also be pursuing further studies, starting in July with mechanical engineering at the Academic Institute of Excellence.
Hané van der Merwe (18, Blythedale Beach)
While still in matric at Curro Salt Rock, Hané is also passionate about community upliftment.
She believes the experience gained from the Miss Ballito charity initiatives will prepare her for a new and exciting journey.
Fikile Londiwe Ndunakazi (20, Melville)
Fikile said she has a passion for helping people discover their talents.
Passionate not only about modelling, but also children, she said she wants to use Miss Ballito to learn and grow while meeting new people and helping out in the community.
Chloe Craig (22, Ballito)
A passionate artist, Chloe loves getting to know people for who they really are.
By entering Miss Ballito, Chloe said it will be an opportunity to boost her confidence and help grow the community.
“I hope to demonstrate open-mindedness and experience various cultures along the way. There’s a lot to learn about this community and I intend to soak up every bit.”
Lindiwe Khumalo (24, Melville)
Working as a waitress in Salt Rock, Lindiwe studies part-time through UNISA and calls herself an ambassador for change and transformation.
She plans to actively continue the community outreach programmes started by the Miss Ballito pageant, and to be part of projects that benefit and grow not only herself as an individual, but young people at large.
