Salt Rock dancing duo shine on international stage

Their "flashy, flamboyant and razzle-dazzle" choreography impressed spectators and judges alike, earning them second place in the Latin dance finals at the prestigious Hong Kong International Latin Cup.

Salt Rock dancing duo Ryno van den Berg and Elena Tokarenko were top of their game last Wednesday, claiming second place in the Latin dance finals at the prestigious Hong Kong International Latin Cup.

Speaking to the Courier from Hong Kong, Ryno and Elena shared the news of their “flashy, flamboyant and razzle-dazzle” choreography which wowed spectators and judges alike.

They said it was a nail-biting outcome as they narrowly missed out on winning by only a two-point difference.

“Our choreography differed quite a bit from the usual, conservative style and we really entertained the audience with our more flamboyant approach,” said Ryno.

“We are now at a stage of our careers where entertaining becomes perhaps more important for us,” said Elena.

While victory eluded them, the North Coast team say they were nevertheless elated.

“This competition was very important to us, especially from a business point of view. A good performance means more invitations to shows and opening doors for judging and teaching opportunities,” said Ryno.

For the time being the duo will remain in Hong Kong where they offer dancing lessons to students.
