Sheffield snare sweep operation a success
It was another fruitful return as 23 snares were collected, adding to the 30 snagged by Snare Aware during previous visits.
The first public North Coast snare sweep event drew almost thirty people to Sheffield on Saturday.
Hosted by Monkey Helpline and Snare Aware, the day kicked off with a demonstration from Snare Aware volunteers before the group split into four to search a wider area.
United in their love for animals and a desire to protect the remaining wildlife in local greenbelts, the group worked throughout the morning to remove every last snare they came across.

This aside from the more regular sweeps done by Monkey Helpline and Sables Creatures volunteers in the area, with all groups combining to try and stamp out the snare placement.
“The snare sweeps are obviously important in removing active snares, but we hope that the regularity of the removals will also act as a deterrent for future placement,” said Monkey Helpline’s Linda Loubser.
“We were really happy with the turnout on Saturday and hope to be able to host another event soon. The co-operation between the different organisations is the best way to tackle the problem and we thank all involved for the contributions.”

Aiding the cause on Saturday were five Ensure Security guards who walked with the groups to provide some extra protection.
If you would like to help in a more regular capacity, you can volunteer with Monkey Helpline and Sables Creatures, while all three organisations would welcome donations.
