Crocodile handler hospitalised after attack at Crocodile Creek (Watch)
A Nile crocodile handler was rushed to hospital after being grabbed by the reptile.
A crocodile handler was seriously injured after being attacked during a live show at Crocodile Creek in Greylands – between Tongaat and Ballito – on Sunday.
The handler was bitten on the leg while interacting with the Nile crocodile using a wooden stick.
A video of the incident, shared by Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), shows the handler limping away after the crocodile grabbed him and pulled him to the ground, before letting him go.
The owner of Crocodile Creek, Peter Watson, told the Courier that the handler is in a stable condition at Victoria Hospital in Tongaat.
“While I am happy that our employee managed to escape and is currently stable, we are concerned about the violation of protocol during the show. Whenever anyone enters the pond, we require them to have another employee standing by to monitor the situation,” Watson said.
Watson said they would conduct an internal investigation into the incident.
