Significant economic boost expected as Ballito prepares for Urban Agri World Summit

From food security to eco-friendly farming practices, the summit agenda tackles pressing agricultural issues on a global scale.

Ballito will be hosting hundreds of international experts attending the 5th Urban Agri World Summit in September.

The summit is expected to attract 350 to 450 delegates from across the world, ensuring a significant economic injection for the district’s hospitality industry.

The summit agenda will address key agricultural issues such as food security, resource conservation, eco-friendly farming practices, effective methodologies for small-scale food production and opportunities in agro-processing.

Enterprise iLembe’s executive manager for investment promotion and marketing, Cheryl Peters, said they secured the hosting of the summit through a partnership with the KwaZulu Natal Convention Bureau. The venue is still to be confirmed.

“This partnership serves as tangible evidence of what can be accomplished through collective collaborations,” she said.

Putting their best foot forward at the Johannesburg show were Sonto Mayise (KZN Convention Bureau), Maggie Tan (CEO of Magenta Global) and Cheryl Peters (Enterprise iLembe).

She emphasised there were still opportunities for additional endeavours to enhance the promotion and positioning of the North Coast as a premier global business and leisure hub, but this requires cooperation from all stakeholders.

Acting CEO of Enterprise iLembe, Hlengiwe Hakata, said hosting conferences and major events in the region attracts additional visitors, significantly contributing to the recovery of the iLembe tourism sector.

Recently, Enterprise iLembe partnered with the KZN Convention Bureau, KwaDukuza Municipality and other KZN tourism partners to exhibit at the 2024 Meetings Africa show in Johannesburg.

The theme this year, “Africa’s Success Built On Quality Connections”, emphasised the importance of fostering meaningful partnerships between African exhibitors and global product buyers.

The two-day event featured 380 exhibiting companies from 21 African countries, collectively representing the continent’s business events industry and showcasing a diverse array of products and experiences.
