Trailblazer takes the reins at iLembe Chamber

Following a recent board meeting, Nkonzo Mhlongo steps into the shoes of Andy Horton as the iLembe Chamber's new president, ushering in a new era of leadership and vision.

The iLembe Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, has a new president.

Nkonzo Mhlongo was appointed to succeed Andy Horton at the Chamber’s board meeting held last Thursday.

Mhlongo previously served as the Chamber’s vice-president, with Horton transitioning to the role of vice-president and Dominic Collett maintaining his position as treasurer.

Bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role, Mhlongo currently serves as the corporate affairs executive at Tongaat Hulett Sugar and holds a master’s degree in commerce with a specialisation in leadership studies, particularly focusing on local economic development.

Her previous engagements with the South African Sugar Association (SASA) and the UN Population Fund underscore her dedication to socio-economic progress.

In her capacity as corporate affairs executive, Mhlongo collaborates with governmental bodies and traditional leadership to address pertinent issues such as land reform and sustainable local economic development.

Her election marks a pivotal moment for the iLembe Chamber, reflecting its commitment to fostering inclusive growth and advocating for the interests of local businesses.

Expressing her gratitude for the opportunity, Mhlongo emphasised her dedication to advancing iLembe as an investment destination and driving regional growth.

Leveraging her relationships with stakeholders, she aims to bolster the Chamber’s role in shaping policies and practices conducive to business prosperity.

The newly elected president also unveiled the composition of key standing committees within the Chamber, emphasising collaboration and diversity of expertise to address various challenges and opportunities.

The iLembe Chamber board’s standing committees are:

Finance committee: Nkonzo Mhlongo (president), Dominic Collett (treasurer) and Cobus Oelofse (CEO).

Ethics committee: Andy Horton and Ndumiso Ncube (Manjula Group).

Remuneration committee: Hantie Plomp (Triplo4) and Shain Majoo (Synergy Property Trust).

Isithebe Business Cluster board representative: Ridwaan Raheem (Freedom Stationary).

KwaDukuza/Stanger board representative: Shain Manjoo.
