Ballito Farmer’s Market celebrates one-year milestone with community festivities

Co-founder Kyle Pretorius shared how he conceived the idea for the market during the Covid-19 pandemic while living in Bangkok, Thailand.

The Ballito Farmer’s Market recently celebrated its one-year milestone.

Co-founder Kyle Pretorius said he came up with the concept during the Covid-19 pandemic when he had to lay off his workers while living in Bangkok, Thailand.

Upon returning to South Africa, he co-founded the market, which currently has 184 trading outlets.

“It has been phenomenal to see how not only the market has grown but how the following has grown and the families we are able to support,” he said.

Pretorius stressed that while the market is known for its vibrant and entertaining atmosphere, it is also rooted in community service and upliftment.

Every weekend the market hosts a blood bank clinic where shoppers can donate blood.

The market’s celebration included fun-filled activities such as complimentary face painting, pony rides, happy hour at the Pumphouse and kids’ soccer.
