Cash-in-transit heist closes N2 between Mandeni and Gingindlovu

One of the cash-in-transit van crew was shot in the leg, while the second was lucky to escape with minor injuries.

Two cash-in-transit van crew were injured in a brazen robbery on the N2 just north of Mandeni this evening.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue, one man was shot in the leg and is seriously injured while the second was lucky to escape with minor injuries.

The van was travelling northbound towards Gingindlovu at around 6pm when it was stopped and attacked by an unknown number of robbers.

Details on the robbery are currently scarce, but explosives appear to have been used to gain access to the cash.

It is unclear how much money, if any, was taken.

“The N2 is currently closed, with traffic being diverted to the R102 between Mandeni and Gingindlovu,” said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson, Samantha Meyrick.

It is expected that the N2 will remain closed for some time in order for clean-up and police investigation to take place.
