Live music, street food, and shopping at Burnedale Night Market

The first market of the year was packed with locals and holidaymakers looking for a family evening out.

The second Burnedale Farm Night Market kicked off the 2025 North Coast events calendar in style last Friday.

The market will become a monthly staple in Salt Rock. The December launch event was such a hit that more food vendors and seating were needed for this month’s event.

Sarah Lenferna of Balance Company is a regular vendor at both Salt Rock Farmers Market and the Burnedale Farm Night Market.

“I have just started this market, but there is room for expansion, especially for food vendors,” said founder and organiser, Andrea Kruger. “We have 26 stalls, but there is still space for a dozen more.”

Kruger is also the muscle behind the popular Salt Rock Farmers Market at Claremont Farm in Sheffield Beach.

Families enjoy the relaxed atmosphere at the second Burnedale Night Market.

Both markets are scheduled so as to not clash with other local markets. The Salt Rock Farmers Market is held Thursday mornings, while the Burnedale Night Market is on the first Friday of the month between 4.30 and 8.30pm.

“The night market is different. It has a European street market vibe about it. The lights create a wonderful atmosphere when the sun goes down,” said Kruger.

Markets such as the Burnedale Night Market are popular among North Coast locals and tourists, alike.

The market was packed with locals and holidaymakers looking for a family evening out. They enjoyed a night of shopping, live music, and a variety of street food and confectionary.

Burnedale Bistro and Abbiocco, the two independently owned restaurants, offer a formal dining experience for shoppers.

Dine at Abbiocco, one of the best restaurants on the KZN North Coast. Owner and host, Alexi Kyriacou, cooks his traditional Cypriot lamb souvla in front of his guests.

Both restaurants were filled to capacity. Families dined outdoors, while children played in the kiddies’ play area. The gin bar was a huge hit.
