#Reportback: Streetlights and traffic lights need to be a priority

Ward 30 councillor, Jack Abrahams, shares interventions he is working towards.

The traffic lights at the eBandla intersection on the P445 have not been working now for quite some time.

I have sent emails to the Electrical Department, Finance and Supply Chain Management.

However, the budget for traffic lights was poorly calculated for this financial year. That and the fact so many traffic lights get taken out by motorists, mostly in the dead of night. The last report I received is that the traffic lights will only be fixed in the new financial year (July 2025).

The speed hump on Ballito Drive outside Seaward Estate has finally been installed. However the contractor/KDM did not install warning signs prior to the installation. Also took them a good few days to come and paint the humps. This left residents furious.

The upgrade of the taxi rank is near completion with just electrification needed to be completed. The official re-opening will be on April 4.

I and some ward committee members will be meeting with Department of Transport, this week to discuss challenges and issues on the P445 (between the BP and R102) and R102. One of the ward committee goals is to see the P445 have street lights installed as it’s such a dark area in the early mornings and late evenings.

This will be one of our ward-based projects for the upcoming financial year.

The Dukuza substation remains an ongoing multiyear project will a realistic completion only being 2026.

Two weeks ago we again had some damaging rain. There’s been some damage on Warren Heights Road and Ballito Drive. This has been reported to the disaster management teams responsible for the various wards.
